About Keagan Provident
Keagan Provident is a ceramic artist pursuing a BFA at PennWest Edinboro. She mainly works in stoneware and porcelain. She creates unsettling sculptures alongside bright and colorful functional ware. She has assisted art classes for students of all ages at Montessori Regional Charter School and the Erie Center for Arts and Technology. She is currently exploring the idea of creepy creatures in a sculptural form by experimenting with different glaze application and surface textures.
I make ceramics art, focusing both on functional pottery and sculpture. I started as more of a functional pottery, making bright and colorful works that I thought others wanted to see. While I still enjoy making functional work, I shifted towards sculptures that are more unsettling and dark, that tie more into my own interests.
My sculptures are inspired by my love of horror, creepypasta characters and the unknown. One of my creatures is loosely based on the Russian Sleep Experiment story, combining different elements of my own imagination. I've been enjoying experimenting with surfaces a lot with these pieces. Failed experiments are always a part of my work which can lead to new ideas and problem solving.
I want my work to make the viewers feel slightly uncomfortable and have some curiosity. My goal is to have people do a double take and ask themselves “What is that?”
